Dear NOVA Teachers - NOVA out of business??

Dear NOVA teachers,

Hi, firstly I would like to say thanks for visiting my blog. I feel I am so lucky that your visit to my blog.

As you know, bankruptcy of NOVA is a hot issue in Japan now.

I would like to make the most of your visit and would like to get your experience as foreign language teacher in Japan.

Of course, you can comments anything what you know about NOVA!

I would say price of English Conversation Schools not only NOVA but any other companies is extremely high. The problem is although people are paying a lot of money but few people can improve their skills.

First question is
Do you think english conversation school is just a rip-off or not? Why do you think so?

Second question is
As your experience as foreign language teachers in Japan, what is the biggest advice you want to provide to your students?

Finally
What do you think is it the main reason there are just few people can speak English although Japanese spent 6years+4years for Engilish education?

Why Chinese people catch up english more quickly although Japanese are struggling?

Hiroさn、こんにちは

Alghough I'm not a NOVA teacher, a brief comment on the last question...
I think the biggest problem is definitely the lack of opportunity that they can actually use the English skill they've got. No opportunity, no motivation, and no improvement. That is the equation. Learnig languages is always tough. If it seems meaningless, we never study languages.
I think the difference between Chinese people and Japanese people is coused by at least next two reasons;
1. In terms of language, Chinese has more sounds than Japanese, which makes it easier to pronounce any other languege including English for Chinese people than for Japanese people.

2. In general, Chiese people are more talkative than Japanese people (at least I got this impressioin) When you learn a new language, it's quite important to speak it out. Japanese people are shy and quiet. That is priventing them from improving their language skill quickly.

I realize my English has got rusty especially in speaking. I don't find so much difficulty when I type English but when I speak, it's terrible. I'm trying to find a place that I can constantly speak in English.

やはり、海外で会った強者たちを思うと悔しいんですよね。1.5リンガルで終わるつもりはありません!!
There is always room to grow.

Dear Hiroさn,

In response to your question, I do not believe that all English schools in Japan are expensive. In fact, there is one educational services firm that I know of in Japan that is a business start up that has helped several, if not many, Japanese students improve their English skills in a short period of time. Furthermore, 8 Japanese students at Harmani (www.harmani.co.jp) have had their articles and essays published on the Daily Yomiuri. In addition, all of its students that have taken the TOEIC have received a 800 score or higher on TOEIC exam.

To my understanding, Harmani provides a solid education program that help students of all nationalities excel in their English studies. The company also offers an online service for students that make sure that they are able to communicate in English via e-mail or telephone with native English speakers.

The tuition price is relatively cheap compared with Nova, Gaba, ECC, Aeon, etc. Finally, all of Harmani`s teacher are certified educators "not Eikawa instructors" who take great pride in helping students.

Check them out when time permits?

The Chinese have started using their services online. Why not more Japanese?

[C129] Dear Educator

Hi, thanks for your input.

It sounds nice to hear that your students got their article published on Yomiuri.

I wanna try to do so..

Well visiting Harumoni depends on how much you can contribute to my site..

BTW, surprising enough that you can find so many mistakes in my article above, I already over 920 in TOEIC, no problems for passing 250 for TOEFL, and 1st grade certified for Eiken test.

It means that I am OK in terms of Japanese level english education.. However, there are so much room for improvement.

I would say a lot of Japanese are in same situation and struggling
